2. Hosting and server log files

This website is provided via GitHub Pages, a service of GitHub Inc., 88 Colin P. Kelly Jr. Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. When you visit the pages, GitHub processes technically necessary data, in particular your IP address, the date and time of access, the page requested, and your browser and operating system. GitHub stores IP addresses in server log files for security reasons.

The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. My legitimate interest lies in delivering the website securely and reliably. The transfer to the USA is based on the European Commission’s adequacy decision for the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, under which GitHub is certified.

3. No cookies, no tracking

This website sets no cookies and uses no analytics or tracking services. Fonts are not loaded from external servers but provided by your device’s operating system. The contact form loads no third-party scripts; data is only transmitted when you submit it.

4. Contact form

When you submit the contact form, your name, email address and message are forwarded to me by email via the Web3Forms service. Web3Forms is operated by Web3Creative, based in India, and uses Amazon Web Services, Cloudflare and Hetzner, among others. Transfers to countries outside the EU are covered by the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, which form part of the Web3Forms data processing agreement. I have limited the retention period at Web3Forms to 7 days.

The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, and Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR for pre-contractual enquiries. My legitimate interest lies in answering your enquiry. I delete your message once it has been dealt with and no statutory retention obligations apply.

5. Contact by email

If you email me directly, I process your address and details to answer your enquiry. The same legal bases and deletion periods apply as for the contact form.

6. Links to other websites

The “Publications” page links to documents hosted by the University of Freiburg. Data such as your IP address is only transmitted to that server once you click such a link. The respective operator is responsible for that processing.

7. Your rights

You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to object to processing (Art. 21). Simply contact me at the email address above.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). The authority responsible for me is the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of North Rhine-Westphalia in Düsseldorf.
